Job description

Objectives of this role
As part of the Group Datalayer team within the Digital Business Platforms department, and reporting to the Datalayer Service Manager, you will ensure that the whole stack delivers the expected service with the right SLA.
Working closely with the Operations team, you will run the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health
You will improve the reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions that make up the Datalayer stack
You will measure and optimise system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating for continual improvement
You provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large-scale distributed software applications
You will provide technical oversight and ensure that the Datalayer stack is state of the art and follows all best practices.

Responsibilities
You will work with the Operations team to help build the automation processes for installing, updating, upgrading and scaling the Datalayer stack.
Help collect and interpret metrics from applications to support performance tuning and troubleshooting
You will improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures using the Group DevSecOps framework.
Participate in system design consulting, platform management and capacity planning
Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts
You have FinOps acculturation and intend to make the best choice at the better cost

Applicant's profile

Required skills and qualifications
You have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related discipline
you have experience with modern data stack and data platform
You are an IaC and automation evangelist
You have the ability to program using one or more high-level languages, such as Python, Yaml, Ansible & Terraform (Scala & SQL as a bonus)
Ideally, you have experience with distributed storage technologies such as Cloudera, Starburst, Dataiku, Kafka, Confluent, Hive, or Spark, as well as dynamic resource management frameworks (Apache Mesos, Kubernetes, Yarn)
Understand public cloud concepts, as our Datalayer is hosted on hyperscalers
You have a proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement
