Job description

Objective / Purpose of the Job:

The Head of Airfreight is responsible for managing and optimizing Airfreight operations to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and compliant transportation of goods by air. This role involves overseeing the entire process from booking to delivery, managing relationships with carriers, and ensuring high service standards. The Head of Airfreight plays a key role in achieving operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Key Activities / Accountabilities
1. Operational Management:
o Oversee daily Airfreight operations, ensuring timely and accurate shipment of goods.
o Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to manage Airfreight logistics efficiently.
o Monitor and manage shipping schedules, routes, and cargo handling processes.

2. Carrier Relations:
o Develop and maintain strong relationships with air carriers and service providers.
o Negotiate contracts, rates, and service agreements with carriers.
o Evaluate carrier performance and address any issues to ensure high service levels.

3. Cost Management:
o Optimize Airfreight costs through effective negotiation and route planning.
o Monitor freight expenses and implement cost-saving measures.
o Prepare and manage Airfreight budgets and financial reports.

4. Compliance and Documentation:
o Ensure compliance with international Airfreight regulations, customs requirements, and company policies.
o Oversee the preparation and submission of necessary documentation for air shipments.
o Stay updated on changes in Airfreight regulations and industry standards.

5. Customer Service:
o Maintain high levels of customer service and satisfaction.
o Address customer inquiries, complaints, and issues related to Airfreight shipments.
o Provide timely and accurate information to customers regarding shipment status.

6. Performance Monitoring:
o Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for Airfreight operations.
o Prepare regular performance reports and dashboards.
o Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

7. Team Leadership:
o Lead and manage the Airfreight team, providing guidance and support.
o Conduct performance evaluations and provide training and development opportunities.
o Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

8. Strategic Planning:
o Support the development and execution of Airfreight strategies to achieve business goals.
o Analyze market trends, industry data, and competitive landscape to inform strategic decisions.
o Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive business growth.

9. Healthcare Activities:
o Act as a contact of competence for health care customers.
o Ensure that all transport operations are conducted in line with WHO TRS 957 and EU GDP Guidelines (2013/C 343/01).
o Ensure that the GDP standards are respected across his team.

Applicant's profile

Educational and / or Training Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
REQUIREMENTS:

• A minimum of five years freight forwarding experience – with in depth exposure to and expertise in Airfreight Operations.
• GDP experience very desirable
• Previous experience leading and coaching staff is highly advantageous, however the desire and passion to lead people is essential.
• Self-motivated and ability to work autonomously.
• Commitment to finding more efficient or cost-effective ways of doing things.
• Customer focused and commercially astute with a high level of communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize tasks, effective time management and a high level of accuracy.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in German and English.
• Impeccable interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate positively and constructively with multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to think out of the box, solve problems and remain calm under pressure.
• Have strong resilience and the ability to recover quickly from setbacks.
